Vertientes

Streams, 2017.
In this series, I set out to explore how color can function as an emotional map of the Caribbean diaspora. Abstraction here is not just an expressive tool, but a necessity: a way to capture the irreducible nature of migrant memory, where affective geography is fluid, shifting, impossible to pin down.

Forms dissolve and reappear on the surface, like memories that emerge and sink within a chromatic ocean. I am not trying to narrate, but to convey the intensity of displacement and the fragmentation of identity in the constant movement between shores.

This series marked my first encounter with gestural expressionism, an attempt to give shape to the shapeless: nostalgia, loss, and the persistence of a past that, though transformed, continues to inhabit the depths of memory.

Like reflections of a dispersed, yet ever-present Caribbean.
